'Trapped in a Dreadful Dream': Families of Missing Young People Await Information After Alpine Inferno
The relatives of teenagers missing after a tragic fire at a venue in a Swiss ski resort are facing an excruciating wait for confirmed information and appealing for clues about their loved ones publicly.
The inferno ripped through the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the small hours of January 1st. Verified images depict the ceiling igniting as bottles with fireworks are raised in celebration.
Officials have warned that it could take days if not weeks to formally name the fatalities of the disaster, which killed four dozen individuals and injured another scores more. Authorities noted on the latest update that the majority of the those hurt have been identified, with work ongoing to locate the final individuals.
In the interim, families and friends have been using online platforms to appeal for any news about their loved ones who were in attendance that evening.
Heartbreaking Pleas for the Unaccounted For
The location of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are currently unknown, according to an public plea from his parent.
The who lives of Lutry near Lausanne, informed a publication that she had gone back to the city to check whether he was in the medical facility, while his other parent did the same in the capital, but was unsuccessful.
"This is a living nightmare, a nightmare. The options are finding my son in the morgue, or I find him in a serious state. Words cannot describe it," she stated.
She continued that some of his peers had been located with injuries covering a significant portion of their bodies. "There are no words; they endured hell."
The Italian government has confirmed that a number of of its young people have not been located.
Included in that group is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old sportsman, originally from Italy but now residing in Dubai.
The national sporting body has released a tribute that he is no longer with us, without mentioning the tragedy, paying tribute to a "talented young man who embodied passion and true sportsmanship."
His parent, reportedly stated that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around midnight. An official spokesperson has stated that a official announcement of his death is not yet.
Additional Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also unaccounted for. His mother told reporters that he had been on holiday but had ventured out with a group and ended up at the venue.
"A companion told me they escaped after the fire broke out and that he had his phone with him, but then at a certain point he they were separated," she explained, adding he had been wearing a distinctive gold chain.
One of his educators stated, "I remember his good nature and positive demeanor, alongside great maturity. He would frequently ask if help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Swiss and Greek citizenship but lives full-time in Switzerland, was also at the bar on New Year's Eve, according to media.
Her brother has published an urgent request on social media, saying the family has had "no information" regarding the 15-year-old or the group she was with, who are also reported missing.
Officials from her country of origin say they are continuing to monitor the developments.
